Gone are the days when you can stay at a five star resort for a week for under $500. Don’t get me wrong it’s still possible but for a hotel that ticks all our boxes, luxurious room, great pool area, good location and a reasonable price things start to get a bit trickier.
Hotels like the Legian or the W are expensive and while I’m sure they are worth the money our main concern was that if you stay in a n expensive hotel it makes sense that everything in the hotel will have the same high price tag.
We went for the Royal Seminyak Beach Resort, an Accor hotel situated on the beach it had good reviews on trip advisor and not a bad rate at approx $260 per night including breakfast and airport transfers.
So now for the review;
The pool area is lovely overlooking the beach it has a very old school Bali feel with large frangipani trees a old sandstone paving. The rooms are large and seem well equipt, everything is spotlessly clean. Breakfast is large with a wide variety of options. Service a prompt and friendly but quite impersonal. The menu around the pool and at the beach restaurant is simple with all the Bali classics like club sandwiches, spaghetti and pizza.
The Not So Good
The hotel is very old and unfortunately it does look it, thinks are corroded, chipped and broken and repairs are minimal. The tap wear in Our bathroom is badly corroded and tiles around the pool are broken. One of the pool lights in the pool is broken with wires hanging out into the pool. The price for drinks around the pool is higher than I expected at around $14 each comparable the double six (a very expensive hotel a few doors down) however they are really just average in small plastic cups they are not particularly fancy and not brilliantly tasty. Finally the pool chairs, to be honest their are not enough chairs for all the guests and there seems to be a lot of people getting up early, putting a towel on a chair and then not actually Using that chair until 10.30 / 11 in the morning.
Overall the hotel is average – really good for relaxing as long as you get a chair by the pool, service is quick and the atmosphere is chilled out. Would we stay here again … I really don’t know but for right now we are not complaining, it is what we were looking for it just doesn’t really have a wow factor!
