Over the past few months I have been seeing photos all over Instagram of this very grand old Hollywood restaurant called the Plantation Bar and Grill. Perched right near the top of the Double Six Resort in South Seminyak this place is the epitome of elegance.
An amazing secluded table overlooking the sunset over the ocean, chilled champagne at a fairly reasonable price and impeccable service make this a place I can’t wait to return to.
Its a bit of a mixed surf and turf style menu with a range of steak, seafood and some amazing versions of pub food for me make this menu a winner. I had the macaroni and cheese with black truffles and my husband had a steak sandwich. We had two sides Parmesan crusted onion rings and pea mash. All were extremely well done however not spectacular. Deserts were totally amazing and a bit of a production. Creme Brûlée for myself with its own chocolate done and an affogato with a cafe patron shot with enough theatre involved in the presentation to entertain even the harshest of critics. The casual style of the menu did seem at odds with the luxurious surroundings. Overall it’s really not about the food here for me though – that’s just an amazing added extra.
While certainly not cheap the drinks were well priced and there was an array of interesting options. Bali seems to be going through a bit of a mohito moment and while good in small quantities if I never have a mint based drink again it won’t be soon enough! Champagne cocktails and a lovely wine list make drinking here an absolute pleasure.
For me it’s everything, the view, the Decor, the service and even the waiters dressed in shorts and tux jackets. It’s all a bit tongue in cheek and while not taking itself to seriously it certainly doesn’t let itself down in any way.
Overall the meal was great and while not cheap at $160 for two courses and four rounds of drinks for two it’s comparable to Perth but oh so much better. Book early, ask for a table with a view and make sure you enjoy the sunset!
